Breeding restrictions Not to be mated with USA ‘contemporary’ style Burmese. Progeny of matings with American Burmese cannot be registered or exhibited. none Silver and/or agouti varieties and/or piebald spotting are not allowed for breeding. Burmese cats may be registered on the Active Register, at the breeder’s request, only if:

1. They have themselves been tested normal for HK. The test certificate should be supplied with the registration application.

2. Both parents have been tested normal. They can be deemed normal because of the results of the testing of cats on every pedigree line in previous generations. Pedigree line in this case refers to both parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great-grandparents, 16 great-great-grandparents and so on, or any combination of the same which is inclusive of both the sire’s and dam’s ancestors.

All Burmese imported onto the GCCF register from other registries must be microchipped and must have been DNA tested to show they are clear of all the following genetic anomalies.

A Veterinary Certificate of the test results is required*: Hypokalaemic Polymyopathy Burmese Head Defect (Burmese Congenital Craniofacial defect) Burmese GM2 Gangliosidosis.

They must also be DNA tested to show they do not carry the Cinnamon colour gene or the Long-hair gene. *Cats must be micro-chipped for identification purposes with the swabs taken and sent for testing by a Vet for the Veterinary Certificate to be valid for the Active Register.
No Burmese will be registered in SACC that was imported from Northern America or have cats in its pedigree that were imported from Northern America up to the eighth generation. none
Special notes May be used as outcross in Burmilla programmes.

The majority of Burmese in Australia are blood group A
The FIFe will not encourage any person or federation to produce Burmese in any other colour varieties than those already recognised.

When breeding Burmese:
offspring in a non-recognised colour variety shall be registered as XSH.
Any Burmese cat which has inherited two copies of the HK recessive gene (i.e. is suffering from Hypokalaemia Polymyopathy) must not be bred from. Due to current controversy over the difference in type being seen in New Zealand the Standard is currently being reviewed.
