Breeding restrictions none none none   It is recommended that cats with a Persian or Siamese type head or with any evidence of spotting (white areas on the body, other than the gloves and gaunt-lets) should not be bred from.

In add-ition, it is recommended that cats that exhibit behavioural or skeletal abnormalities (spinal deformities or any abnormality of the bone structure of the tail) should not be bred from.

The use of cats from lines that exhibit extreme Persian type should be avoided: all Persian cats selected for outcross purposes should hold a FAB clearance certificate (either issued after the cat is 10 months old, and scanned by an approved individual stating that the cat is free from PKD (Polycystic Kidney Decease), or issued following genetic testing at an earlier stage).

Outcrosses are not now permitted between Birmans 13c1 to 13c20 and any variety of short haired cat or their variants, or non-pedigree cats, or most of the breeds within the Persian breed section.

Turkish Van cats are also excluded by this Breeding Policy.

Out-crossing to any Preliminary or Provisional status breeds is not allowed.

In addition, the following breeds are specifically excluded as they are known to carry the white spotting gene and/or silver: Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest, Ragdoll, Siberian, Somali and Ragamuffin.

It is emphasised that the introduction of the inhibitor (silver) gene is deemed as wholly undesirable.

Special notes none none none   The F1, F2 and F3 generations from an allowable outcross are placed on the reference register and may not be shown in competition but can be bred from.

Kittens resulting from these matings and being sold as pets should be placed on the non-active register. The F4, F5 and F6 generations are placed on the supplemental register and can be shown in competitions.

Subsequent generations are placed on the full register.
