No progeny will ever be recognised or registered as Devon Rex or Devon Rex Variants. All cats resulting from matings between Devon Rex and any longhaired breed will be overstamped 'carries the longhair gene'. Their progeny will be overstamped 'may carry the longhair gene'. |

| Special notes | Outcrossing to improve genetic diversity and enhance health is still occasionally undertaken. | Experimental Breeding Programmes are ratified by the Breeds Standard Advisory Council. Progeny will be listed on the provisionlal register and after 4 generations will then be listed on the full register. Presently in New Zealand we have an experimental breeding program using Abyssinian out cross to increase gene diversity and establish cinnamon colour. |
