Prior to the registration of any Blue Domestic Shorthair from France as a foundation cat in a GCCF Chartreux breeding programme the cat should undergo a DNA test to demonstrate that it is not a carrier of the longhair, chocolate, cinnamon, colourpoint or Burmese colour restriction genes. The microchip/tattoo number recorded in its veterinary records must be stated on its DNA test results.
DNA testing for PKD, LH & Blood type will be required from January 2024 before registration on the Active Register.

Any Blue Domestic Shorthair from France used as a foundation cat in a Chartreux breeding programme must be a non-pedigree cat of no known or suspected pedigree ancestry. It must uniquely be identifiable at the time of the mating by microchip or tattoo; the number of which is noted 2 on the cat's own veterinary records, and the mating certificate. Many foundation Chartreux originated from the island of Belle Ile, off the Brittany coast.
